Since then the breed a Jack Russell Terrier became very popular in Russia. History of breed
Correctly this breed is called "Jack Russell's terrier". According to the legend, the history of breed began in the English Devon where the priest Jack Russell found time for boxing classes and for hunting. In 1819 the pastor began to breed dogs for hunting for badgers which ancestor became bought by chance a bough in which sort, undoubtedly, there were terriers. Its case was a white color, wool rough, and the basis of a tail and around eyes and ears had accurately outlined yellowy-brown spots. After a while on a kennel of the priest many white terriers of a characteristic color appeared. Low, up to 35 cm in withers, vigorous and mobile, with narrow shoulders and strong paws, they were beautiful nornik, and they with pleasure were bought by local farmers, using for hunting for foxes and badgers.
The priest purposefully eliminated aggressive individuals who in the heat of hunting could damage and wound an animal. For strengthening of sense of smell of the terriers he crossed to beagles, and for improvement of high-speed qualities – to borzois. And though Jack Russell did not consider the dogs by separate breed and did not register it, it developed and issued after his death.Subsequently for development of breed and giving of new qualities of Jack Russell's terriers to it crossed to dachshunds and a corgi. Blood of a corgi made terriers is more bright, and blood of dachshunds - improved their hunting characteristics. As a result of such selection work more short-legged subspecies appeared, and in 1999 the breed was divided into two - long-legged Pascrell Russell terriers and Jack Russell's terriers, stockier.
