The website icon, or favicon, - an important detail which is capable to select your website in results of extradition of searchers and just to give to the website identity. The browser displays favicon in an address bar just before the page address.
Instruction
1. Select the picture for future icon. Ideally it should be the most schematical, with a minimum of details (do not forget about the tiny size of an icon). In any graphics editor cut off and reduce the file with the picture to sizes 16 by 16 or 32 on 32 pixels.
2. Open one of favicon online generators – for example, favicon.ru or favicon.cc. Load into it the picture and download a ready icon. It is also possible to download on the computer the program generator – for example, Icon Magic, Icon Craft, "Studio of icons" and to that similar applications. Pay attention that the newly created file should be called favicon.ico – without any additions, digits and so on.
3. Come into the control panel of the website. Pass into the root directory of the website. On the websites ucoz the path will look so: General / Homepage / File Manager tab. On the websites Vordpress the necessary folder is called public_html. For ""Joomla!"" The CMS software catalog to default – the images folder. On whatever platform your website was located, the root directory for it is in what the favicon.ico and robots.txt files are stored.
4. Replace the favicon.ico file in the root directory with new created by you. For this purpose delete the old file and load new. In some file managers the file with the same name automatically replaces old. Check change of an icon, having opened the website in a new tab.
5. After replacement of the file the browsers will display a new icon. However if display of an icon in extradition of searchers is important for you, it is possible to be reinsured. For this purpose specify to the special robot of Yandex path to the newly created favicon file. It is necessary to prescribe the following code in HTML code of pages of the website (without spaces) <to link rel= "" shortcut icon"" href= ""/favicon.ico" of" type= "" image/x-icon""> or <link rel= "" icon"" href= ""/favicon.ico" of" type= "" image/x-icon"">. This code registers between the <head> tags and </head>.
6. If after replacement of the favicon.ico file the browser still displays an old icon (normally it is the preset platform icon), try to clean a browser cache. Or just open the website via other browser.
