How to learn number of the server

Definition of the serial number or the IP address of the server represents rather widespread administration task. Different ways of the solution of the selected task are possible, but the methods using standard opportunities of the operating system are preferable always.

Instruction

1. Use the built-in specialized WMI utility - Windows Management Instrumentation - for implementation of the procedure of definition of the serial number of the server on the computer working running the Windows operating system. For this purpose execute login with the account having administrator rights and open the main menu of OS Windows by clicking of the Start-up button (for OS Windows).

2. Pass into the Execute point and enter cmd value in the Open field for start of the Command line tool.

3. Confirm execution of the command of start with clicking of the OK button and enter wmic bios get serialnumber value in a text box of the command interpreter Windows.

4. Click a function key of Enter for confirmation of execution of request of the serial number of the server or use wmic csproduct get vendor value for definition of hardware manufacturer.

5. Confirm execution of the command of definition with clicking of a function key of Enter or select syntax of wmic csproduct get name for clarification of model of the used server.

6. Click a function key of Enter for confirmation of execution of request and complete the work of the Command line tool (for OS Windows).

7. Use the specialized dmidecode utility for implementation of the procedure of definition of the serial number of the server on the computers working under control of the Linux family. For this purpose execute login with the account having the privileges of the superuser and enter dmidecode value - t system into a text box of the console (for OS Linux).

8. Select syntax of sudo dmidecode - t system in the operating systems of Linux based on Debian (Ubuntu) or enter su dmidecode value - t system into a text box of the command line when using a RPM system (Fedora, RedHat).
