How to choose decorative stone for finishing

Use of decorative stones in finishing of buildings and even internal rooms gains the increasing popularity thanks to their attractive exterior and small expenses in recent years. Stones can be both natural, and artificial origin.

Instruction

1. If you have decided to use decorative stone in one of the construction projects, then first of all you will face need of very difficult choice in the conditions of variety of stones.

2. Decide on the project. Finishing stones are universal, you can use them during creation of different objects: it can be both normal path for garden, and facing of facade of the house, perhaps, stones will be necessary when updating the family chimney hall or pool in garden. For each separate project only the certain type of material, for example, is suitable for facing works, formations of columns and so forth apply light marble and travertine, and for floor and walls of corridors and lobbies - labrodonit which is resistant to abrasion. It is good to use combination of light and dark marble slabs, reception of forming of mosaic covering.

3. Window windowsills and kitchen table-tops do marble too, granite is too heavy and in small rooms quite often causes oppressive feelings, other types of natural, and especially synthetic stones in kitchens – rarity, they well absorb moisture, and together with it and dyes which can be removed, only polishing surface.

4. Estimate the budget. Decorative stones very much differ at the cost and availability, the price is influenced by production material, extent of processing, color and even texture. The most expensive – stones natural, however it does not mean at all that they the best, for example, for humid environment (the pool, sauna) need to be chosen stones from propylene or its crumb.

5. Decorative stones depending on where to use them, can serve different amount of time. So, if the stone is exposed to constant pressure, for example, you do garden path, then it is necessary to use durable natural stone: marble, mramorizovanny limestone, quartzite, slate, gneiss. For finishing of fireplace it is possible to use decorative stone of soft and porous breeds: sandstone, mosaic stone flags.

6. Choose color and texture. In small rooms and halls with insufficient lighting it is necessary to work accurately with color of material, designers advise to use optical deception, combining stones on color: from dark at floor to light at ceiling, it will visually expand borders of the room and will lift ceiling.

7. Stones have to supplement and expand overall picture of what already is in your house. Designers do not recommend to combine masonry in interior with light textiles and metal, usually decorate the room rough or dense materials, and as addition use natural grassy materials (bamboo, wattled straw and so forth) and also natural wood in tone to laying.
