The winter is the difficult period for gardeners. At this time there is serious danger to apple-trees - hares and mice who often visit on seasonal dachas and regale on bark of fruit-trees. The apple-tree is waited in this case by decrease in volumes of fructification, long disease or death.
Instruction
1. If bark of apple-tree is a little gnawed by mice or hares, roll up the damaged place polyethylene film. It is necessary to do it right after detection of damages, in this case time plays very large role.
2. Cover the damages on bark having width no more than a half of diameter of apple-tree. For this purpose it is necessary to mix cow manure in half with the garden thief or clay. Apply the received weight on bark in place of failure, tie from above with polyethylene film and cover with roofing material for elimination of negative impact of light and heat.
3. Examine damages to the beginning of summer if it is necessary, clean wound from dead fabrics, again cover and wind with film and roofing material. If the cambium (thin juicy layer between bark and wood) has died, healing will go very long - within several years. Look after such damages as follows: you put scratches on the edge of the accruing living tissues, it will stimulate their growth, after that it is necessary to cover wound with the thief.
4. If more than a half of diameter of trunk is damaged, cover these places with the thief or wind with stretch film. Such film densely adjoins to surface, well lasts, creates vozdukho- and water-proof covering. Cover it from above with roofing material. If measures are taken in time, and the cambium is kept, in this case bark will accrue, and the tree will survive.
5. In case of big damages by hares and mice of tree trunk apply radical method of rescue of apple-tree which is called "trunk cut on the return growth". Cut trunk over the lowermost kidney. It must be done until, when buds of apple-tree will begin to be dismissed, that is prior to the movement of juice on trunk. At the same time it is impossible to allow injuries of the left kidney.
6. Cover cut with the special garden thief that the remained stump has not gone to growth on spring. At the strong root system of the saved apple-tree in the spring on tree there will be new escape which will promptly develop. If the apple-tree damaged by hares too young, and its roots are insufficiently developed, to cut its trunk on the return growth is useless.
