How to sow beet and when

Beet is loved by gardeners not only for the vitamins and minerals necessary for health, but also for extremely simple agrotechnology. Being plant quite unpretentious, beet imposes number of requirements to landing conditions.

Beet – plant extremely exacting as to temperature conditions, and to illumination conditions. In order that this useful root crop has grown tasty, juicy and contained maximum of substances, useful to health, it is important to respect the rules and conditions of crops.

Preparation for crops

Before sowing beet seeds, it is necessary to carry out thorough training of the place of future crops. Most optimum "base" for cultivation of beet are beds with the organic fertilizer introduced under them on which plants of family bean, pumpkin, potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage grew earlier. Beds have to be on the site of kitchen garden which is well lit with the sun where there is no stagnation of water.

Before making crops of seeds of beet, it is necessary to take them day in the specialized nutritious solution consisting of one liter of water with the content of ashes, soda and superphosphate. In a day seeds wash with flowing water and leave before emergence of swelling, having accurately turned about hygroscopic fabric.

Crops time

It is possible to sow beet seeds as in the spring, and towards the winter. The best time for crops the April-May when air temperature sticks to not lower than 10 degree centigrades is considered in the spring, and the soil gets warm up to 5-6 degrees, keeping at the same time good moisture content. It is the best of all to sow beet when the threat of frosts is minimized since sharp temperature variation strongly is reflected in young sprouts and can lead to full yield loss. Autumn crops are carried out last decade of October – the beginning of November, with deeper seal of seeds to the earth: about 3-4 cm and with preservation of distance between them in 15-20 cm. Winter crops have to be surely mulched by peat or humus.

Features of crops

Grow up beet, considering the sizes of its future root crops, or at edges of beds – this way is called boundary; or consolidation method when beet is sowed together with other cultures: cucumbers, potatoes, etc. At spring crops the equal bed with depth of reserve of seeds of 2-3 cm is usually used. For subwinter crops beds with cross grooves are used. It is necessary to sow beet towards the winter only to the dry earth, without preliminary soaking of seeds. After young plants create 2-3 present sheets, beet needs to be thinned out, having left distance of 2-3 cm between sprouts. Secondary thinning carry out later emergence of the 5th leaf, leaving 10-15 cm between plants. The best time for thinning – after rain since plants are easier taken out from the soil, them is simpler to replace and not to injure fragile leaves and stalks.
