How to transfer kw to kJ

How to transfer kw to kJ

As you know, the power consumption of electric current which is the main characteristic of technical parameters of electric devices is measured in watts (W). In watt-hour the number of work executed by the separate electric device per the specified unit of time is measured. Sometimes for calculations it is required to transfer kilowatts to kilojoules.

Instruction

1. Translate initial quantity kilowatt inof watts. Let's say the power consumption of the electric device specified by manufacturer in a technical characteristic of a product is equal 1.5 kilowatts. It is known that in 1 kilowatt - 1,000 watts. Therefore, the power of this device in watts - 1.5 kilowatts x 1,000 = 1,500 watts.

2. Calculate the work made by electric current in an hour, knowing determination of watt in relation to joule. As the watt is a power at which in one second work in one joule is made, therefore, one joule in a second corresponds to one watt. Define the number of the work in joules made by electric current in the one W hour - 1 J x 60 with x 60 min. = 3,600 joules. So, the 1 watt electric current within an hour makes the work equal of 3,600 J. The work size made by the 1 kw electric current during the same time will be equal 3,600,000 J or 3,600 kJ.

3. Count the number of joules for the device with a power consumption of 1,500 watts. To find the work performed for an hour by electric current of the set power it is necessary to increase the number of watts by 3,600. In our example: 1,500 watt * 3,600 J = 5,400,000 joules. Transfer joules to kilojoules: 5,400,000/1,000 = 5,400 kilojoules (kJ). So, that quickly and just to transfer kW to kJ, it is necessary to increase the size of power consumption in kilowatts (kw) by 3,600, having received the size of work of electric current in kilojoules made in one hour.
