Inflation is indispensable attribute of market economy. Among its reasons call several factors which in the most general view are as follows: at the former volume of the turned-out products the quantity of the addressing money disproportionately increases. Thus money depreciates.

1. To calculate inflation, use the consumer price index describing the average level of goods prices and service in economy. At the same time as base for determination of cost the so-called consumer basket – an average set of the goods and services necessary for satisfaction of primary needs of one person is used. According to the law of March 31, 2006 N44-FZ "About a Consumer Basket in General" the structure of a basket is defined by three integrated groups of goods and services: • Food • Nonfoods (clothes, footwear, linen, household goods and so forth) • Services (payment of municipal, transport services, etc.).
2. Consumer price index – size relative. To calculate inflation, define basic year – the period of time in relation to which the change in price for the same goods and services is estimated. For this purpose divide the sum of the work of the prices of the current year and production in basic year into the sum of the work of the prices and production of basic year. The received value is expressed as a percentage.
3. In tasks of statistics often it is required to calculate inflation for several years. At the same time it is known as far as the prices for every year separately grew. For example, it is necessary to calculate inflation for 2 years if it is known that for the first year of the price grew by 20%, and for the second – for 25%. If to take starting price level for X, then on a result of the first year the inflation will be 1.2X, and on a result of the second year – 1.2X? 1.25 = 1.5X. Thus, growth of inflation for 2 years is equal to 50%.
