1. Pick up a stone or touch it with language. All artificial stones are warmer than the presents and they heat up quicker. Such minerals as, for example, aquamarine, amethyst, quartz, rhinestone - are colder than glass.
2. Examine a stone under a 10-fold magnifying glass. The emerald, for example, has the characteristic drawing in structure. Spiral patterns and tubular drawings testify to a synthetic fake. In original amethyst you will see natural inclusions and defects. The moonstone has layered structure. Aquamarine has inclusions reminding a white chrysanthemum.
3. Estimate color of a stone. A saturated and bloody ruby - the big rarity also is it more expensive than diamonds. From one corner the ruby is pale, and from other dark red color. Look at aquamarine under a different corner – the real stone changes the color a little. Chrysolite coloring uniform. Color of the real citrine changes under a different corner from pale to saturated yellow. Lazurite has equal blue color.
4. Consider a stone under a bright lamp. At diamond, for example, the sides located behind will shine if light falls perpendicularly. At a natural ruby the crack zigzag also does not shine at bright lighting. The moonstone is poured by a set of flowers, and in it spangles flicker.
5. Check mineral on hardness if there is such opportunity. Rub diamond an emery paper. It will not leave on it roughness. Carry out by diamond, for example, on an emerald, sapphire or the glass. On these minerals there will be scratches. Sapphire is more solid than a ruby and an emerald. Helior will leave a mark on glass.
6. Investigate physical properties of a stone. Rub topaz or natural amber a woolen rag. The real stones will attract small parts, fibers. Pomegranate has magnetic properties. Put a stopper on scales, on it place mineral, and to it bring a magnet. The arrow of scales has to begin to fluctuate.
7. Bring the lit match to amber. The natural stone will begin to smell pitch, unripe amber will have spots, the pressed amber will become sticky.
