How to transfer grams to percent

Sometimes weight shares of ingredients in grams or percent are, etc. given in various recipes, descriptions of chemical reactions, instructions, educational tasks. To use these data, sometimes it is necessary to transfer weight characteristics to percentage. It is not a so difficult task.

Instruction

1. Define how many grams have to correspond to the absolute weight of the measured material if this value is not given in initial conditions. Depending on a specific situation it is possible to make it differently - to weigh, read on packing or in a recipe, to learn in the reference book, the technical specification, to calculate by a formula, etc. Anyway, as a result of this step you have to have two numbers, one of which characterizes full weight in grams, and another - the share from full weight which is still not measured as a percentage.

2. Make equality in which left part there has to be a ratio of full weight (M) in grams to hundred percent, and in right - a ratio of a share (m) from whole (in grams) to the unknown number of percent (x): M/100 = m/x. Express an unknown variable by means of this identity: x =m*100/M. That is, to determine what percentage share from the total weight in grams makes number of grams known to you, you need to increase this number by two orders, and then to divide into the total weight.

3. Use, for example, the calculators which are built in Google search engines and Nigma for calculation of concrete value on the formula received on the previous step. If it is not possible to make calculations in mind, but there is an Internet access, then this way of accounting is simplest. For example, if you need to define what percentage share is made by 127 grams from the total weight in 983 grams, then replace variables in a formula with the values corresponding to them and enter into the field of a search query 127*100/983. The searcher will make calculation and will show result: (127 * 100) / 983 = 12.9196338. It means that 127 g make about 12.9% of weight in 983 g.
