Theses represent the compressed statement of the text of the report. In scientific practice author's and secondary theses meet. For the publication in the collection of reports or the program of a conference are necessary, of course, author's, that is the summary of your report.
In scientific practice three main types of theses are applied. They differ according to contents. It either statement of a scientific problem, or results of researches, or offer of any new technique. The scientific community imposes certain requirements to each type, but there are also obligatory sections, the general for all types. Anyway there have to be a short introduction and conclusions. The text has to be clear, and provisions – are proved empirically or logically. In addition, at statement of a problem in your text there has to be a review of sources and the points of view. It is necessary to state why you undertook this subject and to offer researches. In theses by results of researches the hypothesis, methodology, parameters of researches, results and their interpretation has to be stated. In methodological theses it is necessary to tell about the existing techniques, to describe offered, to tell about results of its application and ways of assessment of efficiency.
Theses represent a report summary so all specified requirements have to be also in the text which you are going to state shortly for the collection or the program. The introduction has to consist of couple of paragraphs. Write about relevance of a subject, give short characteristic of the sphere of researches. Try to avoid political estimates – they can be in the report, but are undesirable in theses.
If your report is devoted to statement of a scientific problem, make the short review of sources which you used. You should not disclose the content of works in detail. Describe the main directions of the previous researches and tell why you consider them insufficiently effective. Further it is necessary to tell what types of researches you offer. In the theses devoted to methodology right after the introduction tell about the existing research techniques. After that shortly characterize the new technique – what, in your opinion, it is better previous by what parameters you determined it how you approved it. If you speak about results of researches, at the beginning of the main part surely designate a hypothesis. List research methods, give their short characteristic. Shortly tell about the main results. In all three cases it is necessary to pay special attention to researches which were conducted personally by you or your group. Specify what prospects the new technique or statement of a new problem gives what the scientific or practical value of this work can consist in. In a final part tell about merits and demerits of the work, about in what directions it is necessary to conduct researches further. Conclusions – that part of theses which of contents the reader has to understand are how perspective researches in this sphere.
