What is shuttle run and why it so often occurs in training programs of various athletes?
Shuttle run is the type of training run during which the athlete repeatedly passes the same short distance. Movements of the athlete imitate movements of the weaver's shuttle: in the direct and opposite direction several times. From there was also the corresponding name of this running exercise. As a rule, distance length for shuttle run doesn't exceed 100 meters. Every time, reaching the end of the distance, the athlete has to concern-legged finishing line or round some obstacle. Shuttle run is often applied on physical education at school occupations, especially when there is no possibility of conditions to run 60- and 100-meter distances. Organizers of various competitions like "Cheerful starts" or "Mother, the father like to use this type of run, I am sports family". There is no wonder, athletes pass the distance very quickly, hazardously, with the large number of stoppages and turns. Though sharp turns and change of the movement on the ends of the distance do shuttle run by the most injury-causing running exercise. The start of shuttle run can be both low, and high. However starting hacks which are obligatory for sprint disciplines in shuttle run aren't applied. The high start in shuttle run is similar to start of skaters: the take-off foot is most strained, swing costs behind on the sock with the small turn. The ability to start quickly is the main factor of success in shuttle run. Apply this type of run in trainings of runners-sprinters to development of starting speed. To gather the maximum speed in shuttle run, technology of passing of the distance has to be the same, as well as in sprint: run high on the toes, high frequency of steps, high lifting of the hip. But speed in this running discipline - not the main thing. It is very important to develop agility to pass the finishing piece and turns with the minimum temporary losses. Working off of the stopping step which is carried out by the athlete before turn is necessary in such game disciplines as basketball, soccer, handball. Explosive jog qualities of legs are necessary skill of the good boxer. The finish in shuttle run differs in nothing from the finish on the hundred-meter race. On the final piece of the distance the athlete tries to gather the maximum speed and to run finishing line with the greatest acceleration. Don't try to finish the body diving forward as it is done by experienced athletes at competitions. For this purpose it is necessary to possess very good coordination of the body. Just finish on speed limit. Shuttle run is very serious load of the organism therefore not to get injured on joints or muscles during these exercises, it is necessary to have good running preparation. At the same time, shuttle run – one of the best running exercises for development of starting speed, agility, kick. Occupations this type of run help to develop coordination of movements, to improve the high-speed qualities, to learn correctly to distribute forces at the distance.
