Kuyalnitsky estuary (Ukraine)

Kuyalnitsky estuary occupies the territory in 60 square kilometers. In open spaces of the estuary there is the lowest point of Ukraine reaching 5 meters from sea level. In summertime the water temperature reaches 30 degrees.

There are several versions about origin of the name of the estuary. Some scientists believe that the name of this natural resource comes from the Turkic word kuyalnyk that in translation means dense.

In the 14th century the formation of the Kuyalnitsky estuary which at first was the gulf of the Black Sea began, and then established the modern borders. Distinguish a large number of crustaceans and other living organisms from inhabitants of the estuary. The huge contribution to the description of the estuary was made by the famous cartographer of the 17th century Guillaume Levasser de Boplan who in the work the Description of Ukraine allocated the following: Lake Kuyalnik... teems with fish, carps and pikes meet here... .

Among representatives of fauna it is possible to meet a stone marten, a badger, a fox, a dark polecat. Also special attention birds inhabitants deserve: sandpipers, seagulls, black stork, gray zhuravel. In winter time the Kuyalnitsky estuary turns into the house for huge pack of water smooth birds.

Now the main problem of the estuary remain pollution of waters fertilizers. Also current problem is a small amount of sand which is illegally got. In this regard the question of reconstruction of the unique resort for restoration of the destroyed slopes and recreational resources is particularly acute.

It is impossible to disregard hydrochloric waters of the estuary from which prepare hydrochloric solution. Besides, here it is possible to use the silt mud consisting of organic and mineral matter. After numerous chemical and biological processes all these components gained invaluable medicinal properties. As a result in 1834 Kuyalnik becomes the mud resort. Already since then its sulphidic silt mud become the real standard for other analogs. With their help it is possible to prevent inflammatory processes, to stabilize immunity and to restore functions of the damaged bodies. Also here produce the known mineral water Kuyalnik which helps not only to be refreshed in hot summer day and to fight from a digestive tract disease. On coast of the Kuyalnitsky estuary, competitions autorallies the Cup of estuaries are often held. Locals, since 2004 annually organize these competitions.
