Maine Coon – one of the most popular cat breeds in Russia. She was brought in the American State of Man more than 100 years ago. Cats of breed a Maine Coon differ in original appearance and surprisingly peaceful character. Their weight can reach 15 kilograms, and wool length – 10-15 cm. Keeping of a Maine Coon
First of all the animal needs to organize the balanced food. The diet of a Maine Coon has to include as much as possible vitamins, minerals and other nutritious minerals. For this purpose it is possible to buy special dry feeds (it is desirable a premium class) for an animal or to cook food independently, I use natural meat products.
Because of the impressive sizes the Maine Coons will eat much more forage, than a cat of other breeds. It is recommended to support Maine Coons in large-size apartments that the animal felt freely and it was not limited in movements.
Care for an animal: combing
When it comes to care for Maine Coons, special attention should be paid to combing of these cats. Hair of Maine Coons very long, however is simpler to look after it, than can seem at first sight. It is necessary to comb out an animal 1-2 times a week special hairbrushes for wool and an underfur. The maximum length of a woolen cover of Maine Coons is the share of animal sides. In this zone koltuna are most often formed and, therefore, it is necessary to comb them more diligently. It is also necessary to comb out a mane and "panties" of Maine Coons carefully. It is better to comb Maine Coons in several stages: at first a tail, then sides and a back, then a breast and "panties", and only after it the most remote zone – a stomach. The tail needs to be combed very accurately not to injure hair, wool in this zone grows slowly.
Bathing
Maine Coons, as well as any other cats, it is not necessary to bathe often. However if the animal was strongly soiled or you train him for an exhibition, not to do without this procedure. For a start buy special Maine Coons shampoo in pet-shop. Moisten hair of an animal and apply shampoo on his skin indumentum. If the shampoo which is too concentrated dilute it with water before putting. Rub shampoo before emergence of dense foam. It has to be distributed evenly on all length of wool. Then carefully wash away foam warm water, avoiding hit in eyes and ears of an animal. Water temperature for bathing of Maine Coons should not exceed 38 °C. After bathing you watch that the animal was in the warm room and did not get on drafts.
Eye and ears care
If at a Maine Coon eyes sour, wash out them ordinary black tea or tea leaves of a camomile. In several days slime in corners of eyes of a cat will cease to accumulate. Otherwise the animal should be shown to the veterinarian. Also do not forget to wipe ears of a Maine Coon from the sulfur accumulating in them. It is better to do it by Q-tips, previously having moistened their miramistiny. During this procedure be extremely accurate not to injure an ear of an animal.
Tooth care
It is possible to brush teeth of Maine Coons by means of cat's toothpaste (is on sale in large pet-shops) and a children's brush for teeth. Move apart lips of a cat one hand, and another clean it teeth and massage a gum. You watch that at a diet of your pet there were rigid forages. They will also promote clarification of teeth of an animal. With the same purpose in pet-shop it is possible to buy special plastic chewing gum for cats.
