How to make chicken in an oven on a spit

Chicken - a universal product. In each Russian family cook chicken to the taste: fry, boil, use for preparation of juliennes and salads. But there is, perhaps, one dish which is loved by everything, as on holidays, and on weekdays. And it is the chicken baked in an oven on a spit.

It is required to you

  • the cooled chicken;
    • 1 lemon;
    • 3 tablespoons of olive oil;
    • 4 garlic gloves;
    • seasonings (rosemary
    • basil
    • thyme);
    • salt
    • sprinkling pepper.


1. Carefully wash a viscerated chicken carcass cold water and put it on a dense tissue that chicken dried a little.

2. In the bowl prepared in advance squeeze out juice of a half of a lemon. Add olive oil to lemon juice. Mix.

3. Crush garlic a knife or miss it through a special press. Add the crushed garlic to a bowl. Again mix.

4. Pour small pinches of rosemary, a basil and a thyme into the received mix. Add salt and a sprinkling pepper. Once again carefully mix the received marinade.

5. Plentifully grease chicken with marinade. Leave chicken to be pickled in the fridge within 2-3 hours.

6. When the chicken is kept waiting, place the remained lemon half in a carcass.

7. A strong white thread tie up chicken wings and legs. Now get the prepared carcass on a spit.

8. Place chicken in the oven which is previously heated to 220 degrees of Page. On the lower level of an oven put the baking tray covered with a foil layer for running off of fat and excessive juice.

9. Bake chicken at a temperature of 180 degrees within 1 hour. Check readiness of chicken, having pierced a fork or a sharp knife chicken leg.

10. If chicken was fried thoroughly, then increase temperature to 220 degrees, and bake 10 more minutes before receiving a golden-brown crust.

11. Remove chicken from a spit, remove threads, get a lemon half from a carcass. Put an appetizing, fragrant chicken on a dish. It is possible to decorate a dish on the discretion. It can be your favourite garnish, greens, currant branches, a fresh or baked vegetables.
