Putty on metal: high-temperature, heat-resistant, polyester structures

Apply special putties to renovation of metalwork. They allow to close up roughnesses of material and also help to protect metal from corrosion and emergence of rust. Among variety of putties on metal the increasing popularity is received by modern polyester structures.

Scope of putties on metal

Putties on metal can be applied to surfaces from ferrous, non-ferrous metals and also galvanized products. Some types are suitable also for the galvanized surfaces. Use putties for the following operations:

  • alignment: the structure fills dents, cracks and scratches;
  • strengthening of surfaces due to increase in thickness of product;
  • closing up of openings;
  • anticorrosive processing of the surfaces including which are already struck with rust.

Putties on metal wearproof, perfectly maintains influence of the atmospheric phenomena, moisture, frost and other adverse effects. Put them, as a rule, under painting.

The putty on metal is bought for repair and corrosion protection of metal building constructions and elements: fences, handrail, ladders, metal garages and gate, door hinges, etc. Also such putties will be useful for processing of metal pipelines.

Putties on metal are demanded not only in construction. So, they are actively applied at repairs of car, the water transport, the industrial equipment, restoration of surface of various metal goods.

Polyester putties

Polyester putties are very popular today in spite of the fact that their price is quite big. But cost is compensated by high qualities of material.

Nonsaturated polyester resins act as basis of similar structures. Also various fillers can be part: fiber glass, aluminum powder, glass microgranules.

Advantages of polyester putties:

  • small shrinkage (about 0.5%) thanks to what the structure can be imposed several layers and not to be afraid of emergence of cracks;
  • good coupling with surface;
  • durability, resistance to external influences;
  • thermal stability: many structures maintain up to 100 degrees, and some - and much higher values. So, the high-temperature putty of ROBERLO SN96 can transfer up to 250 degree centigrades (it is usually applied to repair of car);
  • quickly dry.

Availability of additional components gives to polyester putties special characteristics. So, structures with fiber glass filler can be applied to closing up even enough large openings in metal. The put layer has the increased durability.

The "aluminium" putty (on packing the marking of Alu is put) does surface of product of more resistant to damages, fluctuations and vibration. Besides, structure with aluminum heat-resistant.

Polyester putties belong to two-component. They are on sale in the form of set from two containers (or cans) one of which contains putty basis, and in another - hardener. These two components need to be mixed carefully among themselves just before work and to use within several minutes.

By means of polyester putties level metal surfaces of different degree of damage. During the skillful work mix lays down even layer. For the best result it is possible to use at first starting ("rough") polyester putty, and then finishing (with crushed fines) - already for finishing under painting. There are also universal structures.

Epoxy putty 

Such putties consist of solution of epoxy resins and hardener. They are very popular as they on the majority of qualities concede to polyester analogs a little, and at cost is cheaper than them.

Main characteristics of polyester putties:

  • measure of contraction - only 0.1%;
  • durability;
  • high adhesion with any type of surfaces;
  • long drying: the structure hardens in 20 minutes, but on full drying day is required.

The epoxy putty is happy tekucha. Therefore for processing of vertical surfaces recommend to mix chalk, kaolin or talc with it.

Pentaphtol putty

Pentaphtol varnish acts as binding component in such putties. Also the structure has included fillers, pigments, organic solvent, etc. Such putties are usually inexpensive.

Pentaphtol putties have two-component structure (basis plus hardener). Measure of contraction quite high - 3-5% therefore scope of structure is limited. With its help often eliminate minor surface blemishes of surfaces from the black or grounded metals. Usually mix put in several thin layers to 0.5 mm everyone, the general thickness of drawing - up to 2 mm.

The popular pentaphtol putty of PF-002 dries long enough - at temperature of 20 degrees on it will leave about one day. But the structure is well linked to primers and not tekuch. At the correct drawing forms smooth layer which well gives in to grinding. From above the putty can be covered with pentaphtol, oil, alkyd and urethane and other paints.

Nitrocellulose putties

Are on sale in the form of ready mix which can putty right after opening of container.

The nitroputty differs in the large-scale of shrinkage - up to 15%. Therefore it is put with very thin layer and, respectively, it suits only for closing up of minor defects (chips, scratches).

It is possible to refer to advantages also quite fast drying - about two hours. Besides, nitroputties have quite good resistance to high temperatures
