Time is not independent of measurements of space at all, it is inseparable from them. The most habitual system is the four-dimensional space time, it is sufficient for the solution of many tasks. But in theories of the description of the Universe of measurements it is much more. For example, the bosonic version of the theory of superstrings (oldest of its options) demanded existence of 27 measurements. Today this theory is improved, the number of measurements is reduced to 10. Scientists hope that it will be possible to compactify the theory before observed 4 measurements. It is possible that other additional measurements are simply curtailed and have the punk sizes. But in this case all of them have to be shown somehow. This question is actively studied by physics now.
