How to plant peony

Peonies became general favourites for a long time. It is difficult to find garden in which these remarkable flowers would not grow. Surprising beauty, longevity, frost resistance, relative unpretentiousness and simple agrotechnology — those qualities of peony which do it such attractive even for not really experienced flower growers. If rose — the queen, then peony — the king of flowers.

It is required to you

  • Mix from compost, sand and the garden earth in equal parts
  • 250 g of double superphosphate or 500 g of bone meal,
  • 1 tablespoon of iron vitriol,
  • one-liter jar of wood ashes.
  • Drainage (haydite, beaten brick or gravel)

Instruction

1. Choice of the place for landing. Peonies grow on one place very long. Therefore the right choice of the place for landing is the key to long and magnificent blossoming. Peonies photophilous plants, them it is necessary to plant on the solar, protected from winds sites. It is not necessary to plant peonies close to trees and large bushes and also near constructions. It allows to secure peonies against development of the diseases connected with stagnant air. The best soils for peonies are the cultivated loamy subacidic soils (rn 6-6.5). It is very important to know level of underground water on your site. Peonies do not transfer long stagnation of water at all, and cannot grow on boggy sites. If level of underground water rather high, peonies land on the raised ridges and do good drainage.

2. Preparation of the place for landing. It is necessary to plant peonies at distance of 80-100 cm from each other. The hole for landing is prepared in 1-2 weeks prior to landing that the earth has managed to sink. Dig out hole of 60х60х60 cm in size. Stack drainage on bottom layer in 20 cm. From above the hole on 2/3 heights is filled up with mix from sand, compost and the garden earth. Add fertilizers and ashes to the same mix. Leave hole in such look until landing.

3. Landing. Deliver to calf of peony in the middle of the landing hole filled on 2/3. From above cover prime with earth to the very top. Landing depth is of great importance. Put allotment so that the earth layer over the upper kidneys was no more than 3-5 cm on loamy soils and 5–7 cm on easy, sandy soils. After landing the plant is abundant water, about one bucket of water on bush. Fresh the planted bushes can be hilled slightly.
